Silent Movie Monday at the Paramount
If you are free Monday night, consider Silent Movie Monday at
the Paramount. The historic Paramount opened in 1928 and features its
original theater organ. The talented Dennis James will accompany Robin Hood
(1922) starring Douglas Fairbanks. One show like this and you may find it
hard to say "Wurlitzer" without "Mighty" in front of it! But that's not
all...We are hopeful that the theater's marvelous Knabe Ampico reproducing
piano will be played before the show and during intermission. The piano
operates with paper rolls like a player piano, but is designed to reproduce
the expression of the artist. Many rolls were made by great musicians from
Jelly Roll Morton and Gershwin to Grieg and Rachmaninoff. This marvel is
maintained and operated by the Pacific Can-Am chapter of AMICA, mainly by
Kurt Morrison who can answer just about any question you might have. At
around $10-12, this is one of the least expensive shows one can see in this
grand vaudeville and movie palace. Trader Joe's is sponsoring the series, so
you can bet on free snacks, too. Such a deal - Don't miss it!
