Yep, it's kinda quiet around here. We need some controversy. How about
this?... Boy that new Superscope 255 is really horrible!

their Superscope® turnip with Superscope 235 (AKA, RKO-Scope 235).


Incidentally, I have the movement assembly from a Mitchell BNC which I
believe was employed on "Guys & Dolls" (1955), and the aperture
measures ... ta da ... 2.55:1.

We're still here, I think. Just not a whole lot to say.

I got kind of pissed off this weekend when a rep. house here in Portland,
Oregon ran a legacy print of THE OMEGA MAN with the Dolby Stereo processor
configured for stereo. At every reel splice the film would jump in the
sound head and suddenly instead of mono we are getting sound track playing
through the left channel and hum and buzz through the right with nothing in
the center. The IB scope print was gorgeous and relatively artifact free,
but the sound track was definitely playing badly. I don't know if processor
was running Dolby A (most likely) or SR, but the NR dynamic range processing
was harsh and it didn't have the right filtering.

The theatre ran THE OMEGA MAN and THE LAST MAN ON EARTH as a double bill,
both in 35mm, since they and the recent release of I AM LEGEND were all
inspired by the same Richard Matheson novel. My wife is a big Heston fan
and has never seen TOM so it seemed a natural outing to catch it on the big
screen.

Reports from Showest didn't seem to indicate anything particularly

earthshattering in the offing. The virtual print cost kickback might
encourage a few more circuits to add digital.

The recent flyer from Directv looks like it might have recruited one
of Marty's famous usherettes to promote PPV. Maybe not though.
Marty's are better looking.

I have a Superscope ad that announces both Superscope 235 AND Superscope
255. Superscope 255 would be for a print carrying only four track mag
sound and no optical.

Neat toy. I recently acquired MOST of the sound blimp from one of the
first ("Oklahoma"/"80 Days") Todd-AO cameras. Gigantic thing that
weighs almost nothing.

My usherettes go through an arduous screening to ensure they will look

It played recently at the Brattle in Cambridge, MA. Nice print, although
not IB. It looked as if it has been made recently from a faded negative.

You may want to contact Richard Beers at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland,
Oregon regarding sourcing your print. The Hollywood was where we viewed it
several weeks ago.

It was that hideous Kinney Warner logo. Also, it must have had about 30
splices in the space of about 10 seconds when the logo appeared. It was the
only splice laden artifact in the film.
