I seem to have a new problem with one of my SankenCos11's..
Either right at...or right around where the mic cable meets the element
there
is a major "crackling" when the cable is moved. If the cable isn't being
moved
the mic passes sound normally..but moving the cable, audio seizes to pass
and there is
a static-y crackle.
I've tried to look through the ramps archives on google..and from the little
bit I found
it doesn't look too promising that there is a repair possible.
Does anyone happen to know of someplace or someone who might do such a
repair?
Is it even possible to get inside of the element?
Also do any of you guys know of any "trade in" programs for sanken mics?
Thanks as always,

There is not a practical way to repair the microphone when the problem
is next to the element. The back side of the mic is crimped around the
rubber boot, so the time it would take to remove the section of broken
wire and re-attach it would nearly equal the cost of replacing the
mic. If it is still under warranty your dealer should be able to help
if there was not user-induced trauma involved. Otherwise, replacing it
with a PT (Pig Tail) version is less expensive than buying the full
kit with box and power supply.
Sanken lavs have been as good if not better than other lavs when it
comes to the cable. We have seen a fair amount of all lavs that go bad
just below the head, but almost always as a result of excessive
bending, twisting, and pulling. Obviously, a certain amount of this is
required, but a little extra time and care when removing the mic from
wherever it's planted can make all the difference.
