The recent phasing thread brings up one of my pet peeves. I'm asking that
the manufactures of mixers who think offering only one or two phase switches
consider offering them on all channels of their panels. My old Cooper only
had two switches and my SD 442 only has one. As scary as it sounds I'd even
accept it as a software switch if that were possible.

Hi Charlie,

you struck a nerve with me..

the lack of phase flips on eng mixers i have always considered to be
problem.

One solution that i thought about but never acted on was to have a
cable set made up with built in phase flip switches built in. These
switches would be the same as the ones used for the mic/line
attenuation cables that i bought as an accessorie to my MIx/Pre.
These cables were available on the sound devices site and were made by
AVcable. The switch was called a FXS switch. If i could put them on
all my radio mic cables and match phase to the boom mic then the
problem would be solved. Not the mose elegant solution, but it would
work. AVCable.com I am not sure who actually makes the switches but
it might be easy to do your self.

Phase flips in radio receivers would also solve part of the problem.
I think only 400 series lectros have that feature.

To have the flips in the mixer would be better.

John,

Shure makes a barrel-mounted switchable phase flip that you can keep inline all
the time if you want...

HI John,

That requires XLR jumper between the adapter and mixer. Otherwise,
you have something sticking out six inches from your mixer.

For everyday use i thought the neutrik solution was a tad more
elegant. Granted the switching xlr connectors are a bit bigger, they
still are significantly smaller than stacking an xlr barrel onto of
the mic input.

STill the better solution is to have the phase flips built in.

I agree...put the phase switches back into the mixers. I rely on the 411's
ability to flip phase on the receiver but would love to have the feature
back on the mixer.

FYI...if you are using a 442 and channel two dies on you the culprit is most
likely the phase switch caught in-between settings. This has happened to me
on several occasions.

My 442 is getting pretty beat up these days.

I've had the same phase switch issue. I finally taped mine down.

John
Can you elaborate on the neutrik solution. I searched their website
and found nothing. Sounds like you are saying they have an XLR
connerctor with a phase switch built in. I'm interested.
Thanks
