Film project "NAPOLEON DYNAMITE" shot in July of 2003, @ $350,000 turned out to
be a block buster sell out event at Sundance. With Fox Searchlight buying it
for 3.5 million this makes for a great success story.
As it has been said in previous postings, there are times when you take on a
ultra/low budget project because you just feel right about it. I did this last
year up in Preston, Idaho. Director Jared Hess, with his creative and careful
directing, made this a confident move for myself to take on such a low paying
project.

WE were treated so well, had so much fun, and made lasting friends.
It turned out that Fox wanted to add another scene at the end of the feature.
So they called us in last week to work three days bringing in all the actors
and hiring the same crew to head back up to Preston. THIS TIME AT FULL RATE.

It sure pays off. Now with Jared reading scripts and writing for Fox, he has
told his crew that he wants the crew to have what the Farley Brothers have.
SAME CREW FOR EVERYTHING. Make it a family orientated film production.
Last night our main actor John Heder walked on the David Letterman's show to
talk about the film. Now that is success.

So next time a low budget comes your way, just take a minute & think about it.
I know there's success stories out there. Just wanted to share.

Oh BTW, sound gear used---DAT, AD 4 channel mixer, one scheops, one 416, NO
WIRELESS, slate, and only two sentences out of the whole movie had to be ADR.
Our director simply loves his sound department!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what you mean. But they really didn't have money for ADR. The scene
took place under a next of baby birds. And every time the actor started talking
they started screaming. it was rather funny. I will say I busted my butt to get
more sound than they could ever use. But hey, the editor loved us and wanted us
back.

That's a NEST of baby birds. And of course we didn't want to harm them, even
though it cost them 20 mins of studio for ADR haha!!!

I glad that you succeed to bring all the parts and the birds , but the no
adr is common in
lo budget .

( Why do you need the mixer ,cant you go straight to camera? (dat in your
case)-
You cost us hell of the money. -Because you, there wouldn't adr in that
movie .Did you get it !!, No?You don't except it ?!Ok. My second brothers
uncle have a mistress and her sun wants to be in the movie business !! Yes
like all the Israelis in NY, Moving business, so if you insist on the mixer
he will do the boom , excellent guy wery tallanted , not like yours , just
finished the army -was a sniper ( have few marks on his slam ) , so he is
the perfect solution for no adr , there wouldn't be any
mist(understandings).-So what do you say ?-You still wont the mixer and the
booman . -Yes?? , Ok, no extra time payment ,
Oooo you don't get extra time in this movie ,
Ok , no food !!
You brought you sandwich from home .
Ok ,what about mayonnaise?
You probably thought that it for free from the breakfast -so you are wrong
my dear, no breakfast ,no food and all the people here around would blame
you that they didn't get any soup because you and your mixer, and your
booman .
Because your mixer there wouldn't be any movie , hey Joe tell the fucking
cousin of yours to stay where he is and do some additional marks on his m-14
..
(bang ,bang -Arabic guy that just finished his education in local Rammala
film school and wanted to be a booman exploding when the shot hit him (
allot of smock-only sound .........)

all that becouse you wanted the f....mixer

GEZZZZZZZZZZ..... Ok let's set the record straight. We were feed well, we were
housed in the local motel (town of 6 thousand) only motel, we were given per
dieum (small amount) and we were shooting on 35mm.

I simply wanted to tell a nice success story. There is hope for others who
choose to take on low budget things. You just have to check them out first.
Okay now on to another post...............
