How did a movie like this get released
as late as 1963?
Why did Bob Hope think a movie
set in Africa in the same old-hat
bone-in-the-nose style as a
previous outing with Bing Crosby
would go over big in 1963 (the
same year as the March on
Washington)?
By this time in his movie career,
Bob Hope seemed on automatic.
His one-liners (too repetitious here)
are badly written and the lack of
location shots and the reliance on
sound stages re-enforces the classic
Hollywood bone-in-the-nose epics
of the past. |
