Meant to do this for a while just so that with my Alzheimer-like
condition
I don't forget the films I've love. I'm sure I'll remember a few other
titles
and have to revise this very soon...
1. _2046_
2. _Werckmeister Harmonies_
3. _A.I. Artificial Intelligence_
4. _In Praise of Love_
5. _The Sleepy Time Gal_
6. _L'Intrus_
7. _The New World_
8. _Private Fears in Public Places_
9. _The Witnesses_
10. _Summer Palace_
3-8 are really in chronological order. Also:
_In the Mood for Love_ (not listed to limit
myself to one film per auteur), _Games of
Love and Chance_, What else have I forgotten?
Looking forward to the new Rohmer. |

_Land of Plenty_ by Wenders, which belongs to the top 11. And _The
Royal Tenebaum_
and _Personal Velocity_ for the second tier. I'm sure I'm forgetting
a lot more. |

A.I. was a real disappointment, imo. i thought it was ok until he ran
away, but then the story really lost it's way. he should have been
reuinited with his mother at the end. |

i have only a few. 1. "Malena", a bona fide italian "foreign" film.
great story, great performances. you'll never forget this movie. has one
of the best lines i've ever heard in a movie: "The only true love is
unrequited love" (how true, lol). 2. "Enemy At The Gates" about the
battle of stalingrad. great performances by an almost all-english cast.
3. "The Arrival" sci-fi update and semi-remake of "body snatchers" with
charlie sheen. regarless of his personal problems, sheen gave a great
performance in this, imo. yes, there were aliens and "special effects",
but it was really more of a "they won't believe me!" kind of movie. all
3 of these are some of the best movies i have ever seen. 4. "DeLovely",
bio about cole porter's life. |

Interesting list. Never saw _DeLovely_.
I like _AI_ because somewhere along the way, it manages to elevate
itself into pure myth. It has been a long times since I've seen a
science
fiction film with such long-sighted vision, yet remains so committed
to
humanity till (past) the very end. The perfect offspring of Kubrick
and
Spielberg which becomes better than both of them by themselves, in
my view. |
