The most depressing thing about DIARY OF THE DEAD is that it couldn't
get a legitimate release, even on the art-house (i.e., "limited")
circuit. Happily, its DVD is a blast (including the extras).
Although I'm admittedly a fanboy here, I'd be first to bitch if
Romero's latest outing didn't measure up ...and it more than does.
Somehow, George A., chiseling deep into his seventh decade, essays
Clover/Witch verite and brings not only gratifying gore but wit,
vigor, and style to *his* genre ...one that, by all rights, should be
- pardon the pun - dead. I don't know what more horror-fans (or -
distributors) could want. (Btw, rather than impaling asteroids on the
Chrysler Building, *this* is the sort of movie CGI does well.) For
the aforementioned fans (of whom I may be last to finally see this
movie), DIARY is highly recommended.
