I've been contacted by someone at the Academy Archives (yes, that
Academy) with a request. They are looking for photos (or maybe ads)
from the 1929 Universal musical Melody Lane with Josephine
Dunn. They are trying to identify a piece of film and suspect that it
is Melody Lane. Apparently the songs are rather hard to
discern because of the poor quality of the surviving audio.
Does anybody have any photos of this film, or know of a book
containing a photo? I did find one in the book The Universal Story by
Clive Hirschhorn. There is a large photo of Eddie Leonard and Jane La
Verne from this film on page 62.

Phooey. You want MELODY LANE?? Stick with Leon Errol and The Merry
Macs! Here's my favorite song from the score:

I certainly hope the 1929 film didn't feature an early incarnation of
Baby Sandy!!!! |

Thanks to the ads that Jeff Cohen and "David Manning" sent me, the
Academy Archive has determined that the film that they are trying to
identify is not MELODY LANE. Thanks to everybody for their help.
