You should add the word "again" to the subject. In fact the article does

have say again in it's title.
I'm old enough to remember the first time he portrayed Crisp.

And you should learn to proofread before hitting "send." (I counted
three mistakes.)

Anyway, anyone who knows who Mr. Crisp was knows Mr. Hurt already
played him.

Iirc, 'The Naked Civil Servant' was b&w ...which probably doesn't help
it get viewed often today.  And indeed, I don't know how well it
stands up.  But it was a milestone instance of tv transcending
itself ...and singlehandedly, lastingly raised my willingness to
invest time in televised drama.

B&W in 1975? Certainly not! Color TV existed as early as 1962, if not
earlier. Besides, filming it in B&W on purpose would hardly make
sense, given his use of hair dye and makeup.

I've seen it more than 10 times. I'd say it holds up. Not just in
terms of how different things were back in the 1930s (such as the army
recruiter's correct assumption that Mr. Crisp's hair dye meant he was
gay), but in terms of how things weren't that different. (Namely, when
the bubbly art model comes to Mr. Crisp's apartment to ask him to
substitute for her at the art school, the American soldier in his bed
starts running around and picking up his clothes - but she barely
takes note of him, with her completely relaxed attitude.)
