There was yet another adaptation in '59 . . . but of the three I've
only seen Ichikawa's.
Me, too. But Tony was so enamored with Pauline Kael's prose poetry
description of the '80s version (". . . cherry & maple & red-veined
burgundy . . .") that he talks about it a lot nowadays.
