Lets see, the 1st was 'Fog over Frisco'. What a hoot, some f the
scenes were actually shot in the City too.
Problem was it was 1934 and it was hard to recognise the skyline let
along any neighborhood landmarks. (Where the hell is Butchertown?)
Bette plays a danger girl who has a notorious rep but who we are
(initially led to belive has reformed). I'll avoid spoilers but there
are Stocks & Bonds involved.
It had a whole couple of mins at the end to tie up loose ends and (is
it called?) exposition.
I should have seen this one last, just the same sentiment another
anonymous audience member voiced as well.
The second feature was from the same time period; 'Ex Lady'. It was a
film both long over due and ahead of its time.
The female protag was a gal with drive and a career, a boyfriend she
worked with and no desire to be 'conventional'.
Now, keep in mind this was 1934. She had a lover and didn't _want_ to
get married.
By the time the whole thing was over I think the audience had been run
from pillar to post emotionally, of at least trying to connect with
the characters in a sympathetic manner- but it was hard.
Like I said, it'd have been better to reverse the order of their being
viewed.
Over all I had a decent time. But I had a better film watching with
something like 'the Man who played God', another film with Bette
Davis.
