Hi does anyone know where I can buy a cable to take the 12 V source
from my bag and take it down to 3V to power the r-09 via the external
input. Or at the very least how would I be able to make one.

Thanks

I have thought about this but never done it. Go to a auto parts
store, truck stop, RADIO SHACK or the like and buy one of the
cigarette plugs with the switchable output voltage. Take the guts out
of the plug, put them in a very small box, or some other means of
insulating them touching anything metal, run leads from the input to a
plug that fits your 12V system, R-09 power plug on the other end and
you are set. I am guessing your 12V system is really more like 14V or
so with a good battery, so should be just like voltage from a cig
plug.

You could also trace the wiring of the voltage selector and wire it to
the 3v connections full-time. I would think much easier than building
the circuit from scratch. But then again, good schematics and wiring
diagrams abound on the internet!!!

Those Radio Shack cigarette plug assemblies are often unbearably
noisy. You can build your own from scratch, but it's a PITA. I'd
also be interested to know if anyone's got a source for pre-built,
well-built, quiet inline voltage regulators.

Good point Noah. It just seemed an easy way to get the 12v to 3v
thing done in a hurry!!!

Janor,

This link will take you to a 3.3V 1A Switching voltage regulator.
http://www.dimensionengineering.com/DE-SW033.htm If you call this
company they are very nice and helpful if you have any questions.

I bought a 5 volt version of this and it works great and is very quiet
powering my Marantz PMD 620 off of my NP1.
