Turner Classic Movies will be showing DANGER LIGHTS very early in the
morning of Thursday, April 17th (or very late the evening of
Wednesday, April 16th if you prefer to think that way.) DANGER LIGHTS
was the only feature film photographed in the 63.5mm Natural Vision
widescreen format back in 1930. The large image area and the huge
screen made the image appear sharper and more like "3-D" even though
the format wasn't actually stereoscopic.
The movie DANGER LIGHTS is also known for showing the days of steam
locomotives that has probably never been equaled. Unfortunately, the
63.5mm Natural Vision version is long lost, and all that remains is
the conventional 35mm version that was shot concurrently with the
widescreen version. But one can imagine from the imagery what the
large screen version was like.
DANGER LIGHTS will be shown on TCM at 4:45 AM Eastern time, which is
1:45 AM Pacific time on my cable schedule. More information about the
movie, as well as a downloadable version of it, can be found at:

----I recall seeing the widescreen version on the old American Movie
Classics and should have a tape of it buried somewhere. It was about
1.66:1.
I was disappointed that TCM ran the 35mm version of it.
They also showed the widescreen version of 'The Big Trail', which I
also taped and could more easily dig up.
Yet currently only the 35mm version is availiable these days, though
the widescreen version is finally coming out next month.
