Hello,
It is said, here in Europe, that the 21 may world premiere
of the new Indiana Jones movie, at the Cannes Festival,
will be shown with a 70mm print.
Does any has some information about that ? |

I have not heard it myself. But the chief projectionist for the
Cannes festival has told to an executive at PPI that they received a
message from Lucasfilm asking if 70mm projection was still available
at the Louis Lumiere Auditorium. This is the largest in the Palace
with 2250 seats but the screen is only 19m * 8m.

I beleive Lucasfilm no longer has 70mm projection at the ranch so they'd
have to QC it somewhere else, not that they would necessarily do it there
anyway but just kind of funny. Hope Steven has insisted on 4K DI. |

Why would Lucasfilm do away with 70mm projection? I'd think old George
would have enough cash laying around to store the 70mm gear instead of
selling it for scrap?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree. It seems silly. Most 70mm projectors are 35mm projectors with
essentially the same foot print. So, if Lucasfilm were maintaining 35mm in
addition to having installed digital image projectors on the campus, then
they might as well just go 35/70. If the 70 were gone, I suspect the 35 is
gone as well.
