over the years a number of people have said to me that they "don't like"
foreign films. sometimes i ask "why not", or they volunteer an answer
which is usually that they "don't like subtitles" or they "can't read
fast". i scratch my head and think to myself, "well, couldn't you watch
the scene over a few times and read it again", or "can't you follow
along anyway without all the dialogue"? or could the real reason they
"don't like" foreign films be that their small townish american
mentality just doesn't allow for anything "foreign"?, lol. whatever the
reason, i usually don't pursue the conversation out of fear that they
will think i am being conceited. so i am wondering, should i answer
people's objections to foreign films, or follow my standard procedure
and just keep my mouth shut?
