I bought the Daewoo (inexpensive at Costco) and returned it -- certainly
didn't live up to its specs.

I have used the Samsung, as well as the Samsung converting VHS machine,
and they do about as good a job as you will get from a home system. There
are pulldown artifacts, but they aren't awful ones. If your goal is to
watch all those porn movies you bought in Amsterdam, it's more than
serviceable. If you're looking to watch high grade transfers of Truffaut
films, you might be better off with a PAL or SECAM television.
