Hi,
What is the best way to ensure TC and sync while shooting with two
Panasonic HVX200 HD cameras with sound on a 744T? Will I need an
Ambient Lockit box on each camera and a TC slate? Or can I drop the TC
slate and just have the Lockit boxes? Or is there an easier or other
way to achieve this?
best regards

Vin, the HVX 200's do NOT have timecode inputs so if you use Lockit boxes
you would have to feed the timecode out of the lockit boxes to an audio
channel as LTC. |

no need for lockits or tc slate
put the hvh in free run mode , sync the second true the fire wire port
put the sd in free run
make slate for the first shot , make slate every time you change card or
battery on cameras
keep camera mics open if something drastically happens
synchronize the shots later on avid regarding the first clap

Oleg, what do you mean by slate the first shot? you also mention that
there is no need for a TC slate, do you mean just plain old wooden
sticks?

yep, you mark the firs , all the others would be with the same difference
in tc , so you just sync them almost automatically on nle time line till
the next slate .
if everything goes right you will not slate more then half dozen times a
day ( slate every card change /battery change to eliminate camera
unexpected tc jumps and drift while loosing the power).
of course the number of slates would increase if they work 1080p and 4 gb
card
or decries if they work external firewire hard disk or running just dv on
internal dv cassette .
both cameras go in sync with fire wire connection between these 2 .
very simple

Hi Oleg
Do you know if you could sync two Sony HDV's (Z1's) in the same way?

I don't think so
.. but you can pull the tc from the LANC and sync the external recorder
while the second camera would run separately
By the way there is possibility remove the internal mics on HVX and
establish another input if you record hd or dvcpro 50 , so you can send
ext tc and still have 2 good channels for audio recording
the hvx use 4 capsules on it internal stereo microphone , the audio goes
true some 2 stage separate eq and then combine back , not problem for tc ,
not really good if you like run additional microphones in

Thanks for that Oleg. So I guess you'd need to make up a special lanc
cable that breaks out to something like a lemo to feed the 744T? I
know Zeitx are supposed to be making their lanc-Lump cable but they
are too dodgy - are there any other cable solutions out there?
Cheers

I've been trying to find out myself how to get timecode out of an
HVX200. Is anyone making any kind of small field box that turns the
1394 output into analog audio, video and time code? You would think
that Ambient or Deneke would be all over this, since the 200 is such a
popular camera.
