I'll start this as a new thread.
On the topic of manufacturers posting here, I agree with Billy, I
disagree with Roberto.
While Zaxcom does over-promote sometimes (their rantings about what is
"real digital" and what is not, reminded me of the kind of hype you get
from a hi-fi dealer selling the latest "gee-whiz" speakers) I take the
same approach I take when I pack for a gig. I always have about four
times the amount of gear I really need to do the job -- but I'd rather
have a piece of gear and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Well, I feel the same way about equipment information. It takes less
time to bypass a thread I'm not interested in than it takes to ferret
out some esoteric bit of knowledge that'll help me. Keep the
discussions coming.
Since you're weighing in on this, Roberto, I feel compelled to say
something. First, I respect your knowledge and the depth of info you
share here. However, when the subject turns to anything Zaxcom, you
begin to froth at the mouth and the vitrol, both overt and subtle, you
spew toward Zax I find to be far more objectionable than anything that
Zax has ever posted. Please, we know you hate Zax (for whatever reason)
-- but do the rest of us a courtesy and let us follow the thread without
having to wade through your rantings. Please understand, I don't feel
this way about any other thread you participate in -- just when it
involves Zaxcom. You rail against Zaxcom's bias toward their products
and say they shouldn't be posting, but your biases against Zaxcom are
far more inappropriate, IMHO. Most of us are smart enough to recognize
hype for what it is; we don't need a self-appointed crap cop.
I mean no disrespect, whatever, but I think it needs to be said.
Please, manufacturers and dealers, tell us about your products. Tell us
about features, ask us what we want, inform us when there are changes.
If you post hype, I'm bright enough to see it for what it is, but I'll
indulge the hype if that's what it takes to get the info.
Just my .02
Okay, now I'll duck.

Granted, Glenn is very passionate about the products he makes, but his point
about digital wireless is an extremely valid one. I don't mean to argue the
merits of digital rf vs hybrid rf in this post, but Glenn is vehement that
the principal benefit to digital rf microphones is in digital transmission
(and it's also the hardest engineering obstacle to overcome). That point
can be argued (but not successfully with me . In the Zaxcom system, the
analog audio is converted to ones and zeros in the transmitter. It remains
as ones and zeros until it's output from ther receiver. The Lectro system
uses digital processing at both ends, but the rf link is a analog. I'll
leave it to other threads to debate the merits of the 2, but the point is
that they are 2 VERY different systems. I think Glenn gets riled when both
are compared as digital radios. To use the 'hi-fi' store analogy, Glenn's
radios are digital. The Lectro radios are sort of like the radios sold as
'digital' because they have an lcd display.
Lectro does have a true digital system, the 700 series.

It's a more valid comparison to compare this sytem with the Zaxcom.
Zazcom has done an amazing job of bringing sound recording into the digital,
non-linear age. While the Cameo and new Devas are wonderful works of
engineering, I think his digital radios are the true revolution. It will be
years before any other manufacturers will be able to match them. And that's
the beauty of Zaxcom. This small company in New Jersey is the thorn in the
side of the much larger companies. To compete with him they'll have to
devote much larger engineering staffs and budgets to try to better his
equipment. That benefits us all. Even Roberto. I have no doubt that in 4
or 5 years someone will come out with a better digital radio. I also have
no doubt that shortly after that Zaxcom will leapfrog that product with an
even greater advance.

R,
Are you saying you don't have a thing against Zaxcom?

Not against the later products.
