Is there good tips for how to sound vintage film?
What tricks you would do to get nice lo-fi sound.
Lets say about years 1940-1960.

I use this for sound effects and foleys, no dialog at all

When I have done old sounding parts of a soundtrack (Old silent B/W archive
or older silent home footage), I tend to limit the freq range, like a
telephone and also put some sort of distortion on it, if the footage is
really scratch then you also might want to add some cracks and dips. Listen
to some original movies from that era and try to figure out what's
significant in the sound and try to recreate that, perhaps a little
exaggerated. Good luck!

Yes - I was glad to find out that I received original projector sound
from the filmtransfer when I got the BETA tapes. Anyway very nice
sounding noise of film with static electricity etc. on it.

There are a lot of things going on, including flutter and wow, distortion,
and a variety of noises along with the band limiting.

Read about it at
http://dv.com/features/features_item.jhtml?LookupId=/xml/feature/2001/rose0501

Then you can download a free preset to do the effect, at
http://www.dplay.com/dv, entry of May '01.

Find two Nagras and dub just the tape hiss over and over and over, maybe
three or four generations...this will give you a lovely vintage sounding
hiss for the b.g. Wink
