There few answers that I got from Larry few days ago about lm and
differences between that and um
The LM is $665 and the UM400 is $895 retail. The differences are that
the LM doesn't have the following:

1. The output circulator-isolator for the antenna. This lowers
intermodulation when the transmitters are close to one another. I'm
not aware of anyone else that even bothers with it.
2. The usual big clamp style clip. It has a wire clip, which some
users prefer anyway.
3. The sliding dust cover over the frequency switches. We did move
the sealed switches closer to the case to reduce dust and dirt
entry.
4. The 100mW output. The output can range from greater than 50 mW to
less than 90 mW. This allows us more leeway in manufacturing so that
we don't have to tweak as many units.
5. The removable SMA antenna. The antenna is permanently fixed and
made of flexible steel rope.
6. The variable bass roll off control. The roll off is fixed at 70
Hz.
7. Two circuit boards. After removing some of the parts from changes
made above, we saved enough room to get everything on just one board
which was a big cost saving.
The LM does have the exact same audio circuity of the UM400 and can
still emulate the 100 and 200 series Lectro units as well as brand S.
It has the 5 pin input connector and the same LED audio and power
indicators and operates on the same frequency bands. We tried to
remove all the features from the UM400 that the user in the target
market wouldn't appreciate or need while still retaining the
important stuff.
Hi Oleg,
What I was trying to say was that the power tolerance on the LM was
much wider than on the UM400. To produce precisely 100 mW from the
UM400 on every unit requires adjustment of part values that match the
output of the driver stage to the output amplifier and matches the
output amplifier to the antenna matching network. We do this because
the output transistors vary from one batch to another. The different
blocks also require different capacitors and inductors and these can
change somewhat depending on transistor variations. If we let the
power go above 100 mW (110 mW) because of high gain parts, then the
battery drain is higher than our specifications; if the power is less
than our specification (90 mW) then we aren't meeting our power
claim.
On the LM units, we only claim "more than 50 mW". The units are
designed for about 70 mW. When we get the variations in parts, we
don't have to adjust values because the output will usually fall
inside the wide range of 50 to 90 mW. Another way of saying it is
that it is very easy for us to meet our "more than 50 mW"
specification.
Hi Oleg,
The power does typically decrease a small amount for the higher
blocks but the antennas radiate better so the range is the same.
Battery life of higher or lower blocks is the same since the same
current is necessary to produce the slightly lower power for the
higher blocks.
On any given block, higher power does indeed mean a little shorter
battery life. However, most of the power on the LM is consumed by the
digital electronics so the output power has only a small effect on
battery life. About 600 mW (70 mA) is used by the LM transmitter and
about 180 mW of that is used in the output stage to produce 70 mW of
power. So a 50 mW unit would pull about 8% less power from the
battery and operate about 5.4 hours instead 5 hours.

Hey Glen! I Imagine that you will be in Toronto on Monday since you
would like to change them out for me? Yes I can wait until monday and
would love to meet you.
The LM is a nice design but I agree with some of the boys on giving
up 50MW of power. My clients are all over the map. I still boom OP
on bigger budget stuff, but I do a lot of over the shoulder doc stuff
right now. The LM is a great choice for that but then the next week I
could be doing a short film or low budget commercial where having the
411's makes me more comfortable with the range.
Thanks for the advice again on the transmitters and hopefully I will
see you on Monday Glen if indeed you will be in Toronto
