(I haven't climbed this soapbox for a while...)

Having just watched and enjoyed the somewhat languid Chinese melodrama,
FLEEING BY NIGHT, I read the very terse description on its Netflix
sleeve. Although the presented facts were typically minimal, I realized
that, had I read them first, about half my enjoyment would've been
replaced by boredom.

I believe this foreknowledge phenomenon is pretty damn near universal
w/r/t all viewers and all movies. Yet, *most* people with whom I
discuss it claim personal history proving that they personally are
immune to such effects ...a claim that usually leaves me speechless in
disbelief.

But occasionally my speechlessness runneth over, hence this post. All
insights gratefully appreciated.
