Walking Tall is crawling it's way
into #7 and The Prince and Me, The LadyKillers and Jersey Girl are already
out of the Top10. Did someone forget to schedule all the crappy films for
February or is my calendar ahead by two months?
_The Ladykillers_ is outstanding, IMHO. Let us not forget that _The Wizard
of Oz_ and _Fantasia_ bombed when they first came out as well.
Actually, no:
WOz did fairly well, albeit mixed reviews, despite its difficult to make
back budget--
While Fantasia ran for two years in big-city roadshow engagements, but
Walt couldn't make back the cost of the stereo system, and sold it to
RKO, who sliced it to shreds by a half hour and indifferently bungled
the small-town marketing.
Derek Janssen ("Ladykillers", however, flopped right on its big fat
unmarketable "The mainstream can't stand the Coen Bros." face)
