Looking for stuff similar to those you seen in films (moreoften sci-fi).
Even finding out what they use in Star Trek would be a start?
I'm guessing its a Photoshop & After Effects task.
Would love to know more

I'd like to know more too - the little I've heard (which will of course vary
wildly depending on who's producing the graphics) are that:
Macs tend to be used more than PCs though this is shifting
PS and AE (and whatever other 3D packages and so on the artists use) tend to
be used with something like Macromedia Director used to pull it all together
into a package they can just run on whatever machines are sitting behind the
set. Director is used for CD-ROMs and the occasional overblown website; it's
great for combining videos and bitmaps and flash animations, and it has a
simple but deep scripting language that makes light work of providing
triggers (when actor taps on the alphanumerics, play this animation; when
actor hits return, animate this, etc)
Always wanted to get into doing graphics for use on the actor's end of the
lens - so many UIs seen on-screen in sci-fi shows are abominable when they
needn't be. Sure I could do better
:)
