Several people complained that when they try to make freeze-frame video
captures from Windows Media Player, all they get is a black rectangle.

Here's how to fix it: Turn the video acceleration down.

While in Windows Media Player, go to Tools, then Options, and then select
the "Performance" tab. There's a sliding bar graph for "video
acceleration". Slide it as far as it will go to the left, turning the
acceleration all the way down. Then play your video or DVD. You'll be able
to make captures using the "Print Screen" button and then pasting into
Microsoft Paint, or by whatever other method you want.

You'll want to turn the acceleration back up for regular movie-watching.
Otherwise the picture might look jerky and stop-and-go. But for making
freeze-frame captures, turning the acceleration down all the way should do
the trick. This works for DVD playback, and regular video files too like
..avi or .mpg.
