I never read the play by Leonid Andreyev but
it made me wonder what are your favorite
scenes when someone gets slapped. A comment about 'Gilda' elsewhere had
me wondering, too.

Ace in the Hole. The Producers (yes kids, this was a movie decades
before it was a stage musical). Does Fawlty Towers count?

My favorite slap is in SUNSET BOULEVARD, when Holden mentions he may have a
girlfriend and Norma asks "Some carhop or dress extra?" It looks like she
really lets him have it.

Bette Davis belts yappity Miriam Hopkins in "Old Acquaintance"

It's a real crowd-pleaser!

Jack Nicholson repeatedly smacking Faye Dunaway during the "my sister, my

daughter" scene.

Cary Grant and Brigitte Auber in "To Catch A Thief". She's accused him publicy
at her father's funeral of causing his death, something both know to be untrue.
He slaps her, lightly, more for sound than pain; a public rebuke.
Something like that should happen to Ann Coulter some day on air.

One that I particularly like is in _Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade_ when
Sean Connery slaps Harrison Ford. "That's for blasphemy."

Ah yes. Of course, Connery pronounces it "Blashphemy." Classic.

My favorite slapping scene is when Bogart lets Wilmer, aka
the fall guy, have it in "the Maltese Falcon". I love
Bogart's line : "When I slap you, you're gonna take it and
like it!" .
