.... for dressing the Southerners armies (bad guys) in the Two Towers in Arab
and Bedouin headress. :(

Ah well - guess it must've been pressure from his US financiers. :)

In the DVD features, Jackson had mentioned that he wanted the people of
middle earth to have rich variegated and distinct costumes, that yet would
not resemble any actual costumes from the "real" Earth history.

The Two Towers seems to have dispensed with this intention, as the
Southerner armies (the ones with the oliphaunts) are wearing headdress that
is exactly that of the Tuareg arabs of the Sahara, and many arab or
arab-like nations, such as afghans, northern arabs, etc.
How come?

Even in an LOTR film adaptation we must run into echoes of arab
demonization? (Recall the arab-like nomadic raiders on planet tatooine in
the Star Wars films)

Ah well. I guess Hollywood just has to arabize "bad guys" in just about any
context. But that's Hollywood.

So shame on Peter Jackson. Even as his cast sported anti-war-in-iraq
T-shirts , his film still bears the echoes of arab stereotyping -- albeit a
subtle instance of that.

More to the point, is not a burnoose kind of 'generic' shorthand for "
person from a hot climate?" rather than a comment on nationality.

But there are that percentage of Arab society that are trouble makers.
