Not too spooky after all

That Ekta Kapoor can do incredulous things is known to
all by now. She can resurrect dead characters (Mihir in
Kyunki Saas..) and when her actors walk out, she brings a
replacement with a 'plastic surgery altered face'
(Mandira in Kyunki and Parvati in Kahaani Ghar..).
Needless to say, she continues to do so in her experiment
on the celluloid. So you have a ghost with a corporeal
form, that can be touched and hugged, a college with a
principal and peon as the only staff, and a handful of
students who live alone in lavish bungalows and never
have cellphones handy when they need them the most.
Though Ishaa Koppikar makes up for most of the
inconsistencies along with some redeemable tracks, the
other lead actors disappoint. Wannabe bindaas girl
Natassha seems to be fighting a loosing battle with her
weight. Sohail Khan doesn't do much, except court with
both Natassha and Koppikar. Rati Agnihotri tries hard to
look like a tantrik, but ends up looking too bewildered
to do any de-spooking. Then again, Kyunki's Karan,
Kahaani's Aryan and Tully, Muskaan's gay designer lighten
up the tense moments that the film is generously endowed
with.
Though a tad over-the-top in places, with scenes
reminiscent of the Ramsay brothers' films, the film, like
all Balaji products, makes for decent family viewing.
