Sorry I don't mean to be so dismissive of the Godard.
It's just so self-indulgent I thought. I don't mind fiction
being convoluted, but non-fiction essays (even Chris
Marker's) ought to have clarity as one of their goals,
I thought.

Maybe so. And I should point out that I haven't seen
Le Gai Savoir.

Of course Godard may not think of _Le Gai
Savoir_ as an essay. And the politics is so ... well,
I just read Tom Stoppard's _Rock and Roll_, and let's
just say I am a much bigger fan of that play. (When is
Stoppard getting his Nobel Prize finally?)

Right.

I still haven't seen _The Dreamers_ with the commentary
track on. This gives me motivation to do that! The more
I think of it, the more I admire _La Chinoise_.

They make an interesting pair to consider. Yes - I must
see if I can find Dreamers with a commentary track. Its
from a book I believe.

About the Claude Miller again -- watching lousy films like
this makes me wonder if my favorable view of his was ever
deserved. I did enjoy _The Accompanist_ very much when
I rewatched it on VHS recently. (The music is terrific.) I
should rewatch _Alias Betty_. Other than that, I must confess
none of his other films have impressed me that much.

I've got so many films to catch up on. Just catching up
on the Chopin and Scriabin preludes. Backtracking.

I can rent _Toute Va Bien_ and see the interview. Thanks
for the tip!

Its a beaut, from 2004 I believe. There's also a Godard
interview from 1970, but its the Gorin that's interesting.
