I just watched his BBC mini-series The Last King (with another actor
I'm a junkie of, Rupert Graves). It was on a par with The Other Boleyn
Girl: not brilliant, but not bad by a long shot. (Graves was the best
part.) Should be watched in conjunction with The Libertine and
Restoration.

And again I cry: WHEN WILL THE BBC DO A BODICE-RIPPING BIOPIC ABOUT
MONMOUTH? WHEN, LORD, OH WHEN.

Anyway, anyone going to watch The Eleventh Hour? In an interview on
www.cbs.com, he talks about British kids assuming American accents
when they played stuff like cops and robbers and cowboys and Indians.
He was humble enough to admit his coloring and features typecast him
in villain roles, which is true, but for a reason I can't figure out.

Alric, you want to take this one?

I was at my step-daughter's a couple of weeks ago and she had "A
Knight's Tale" on and asked me "What's that guy's name?" and I told
her and she said "I can't wait for that new TV series he's going to be
on. I think he's great."
I like him. He plays a good villain, and I see no reason to think he
wouldn't make a good hero as well. He's a good-looking guy in a ruff
sort of way. I guess he got the Sean Bean thing going on where he
always gets cast as a bad guy (or in the case of his role in "Lord of
the Rings" merely a weak-willed one).

My wife will go out of her way to watch anything with Sewell in it. He
always does seem to pick the interesting flicks too. I'm still waiting
for a non-screwed-up DVD version of Dark City though.

He's a young Ian McShane (who played Judas before he got famous in
Deadwood). There's something about those protruding eyes...why are
protruding eyes typecast in evil roles?

Anyway, he'll never be Anthony LaPaglia, but look what Bruckheimer did
with the best non-starter of a series of the 00's, Without a Trace.
LaPaglia is just a whiner like the latter-day Andy Sipowicz.

Sewell has LaPaglia's old time slot, and this does not bode well for
us Boomers in the home, because William Petersen's riding his Jazzy
out of Las Vegas. Sewell is still too young and handsome to be a
convincing American gumshoe.

(And how come no one shares my despair over poor James son of Charles
and Lucy Waters, and a head that took eight chops to come off? Have
none of you ever watched The First Churchills? Philistines.)

I don't know, but apparently Marty Feldman didn't get the memo.

If I had a secret decoder ring could I make sense of that paragraph.
Moviepig?

I find it slightly depressing that he had to turn to TV for a paycheck.

I was kind of with her on this one. I've seen a few Rufus Sewell
things, and I literally JUST recieved the Blu-Ray edition of the DC
of DARK CITY. No doubt he makes a very good bad guy, but in the
things I've seen and remember him most, he was the good guy. He's
in one of my favorite period movies, DANGEROUS BEAUTY. I fell in
love with Catherine McCormick, too. The movie stands out more
because of her than him.
Don't be a clown. Sewell is an intriguing actor, but you would have

Don't be a clown? I think my post represents a neutral opinion of
him. Look at what I said about DANGEROUS BEAUTY. I said, "The movie
stands out more because of her than HIM." I don't rush out and see
a movie because Rufus Sewell is in it.

When you said "I'm kind of with her on this one" and then mentioned
all of two movies (and "Dark City" doesn't really count, since that's
really the only movie people know him from) I felt that was clownish.
Boorish, if you prefer.

And THAT -- "boorish" -- is just plain pissy.

Frankly, you suck.

Ouch, ya got me. You've won way too many calvin points for me to blast
you, sorry.
