It's been pointed out many times that Pixar's upcoming WALL-E is a
virtually silent film. Here, in the Los Angeles Times, writer-director
Andrew Stanton directly addresses the issue:
""We looked at everything [Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton] did. We
watched a Chaplin film and one of Keaton's at lunch every day for
almost a year until we saw their entire body of work. We walked away
thinking there's almost no emotion you can't convey visually. It gave
us the courage to take a risk to get it across: If those guys did it,
we could too."

Shall I point out here that the climactic scene of the new GET SMART takes place
in a railroad yard?...silent influences are *everywhere*!...r
