Since nobody else mentioned it, I thought I'd mention these two
documentaries - in order to elicit some responses from those that viewed
them and would like to comment. Do keep in mind, however, that it is
important to speak of them as films, and to criticize them rather on their
cinematic and technical credentials, rather than on their conclusions about
their subject matter.
For instance, while I disagree with Michael Moore's hypothesis as to why we
have the most gun violence in the world, and I also disagree with his
interviewing habits, I find that his editing, cinematography, pace, etc are
quite admirable - and I cannot deny that he contributed a lot of innovation
to the format of documentary films, since "Roger & Me".
On the other hand, "The Trials of Henry Kissinger", while less flamboyant in
its style, it seems to be on firmer ground in terms of its subject matter
and its conclusions.
I might add some of my reactions and thoughts later on. I'd like to read
what other viewers thought of them.
