The REFUM is a modified UM400. The switch enables a shutdown of the
DSP so that it ramps down smoothly and sends all 0's until re-enabled
by the switch. This gives a truly silent mute of the transmitter which
was something we were never able to do with audio switches in the mic
line due to all the RF flying around.

IIRC, the TNT guys were using the REFSWITCH with the UM200 at yesterdays
game in Detroit. I'll look again tomorrow to make sure.

It has also been used with the 700's by ESPN RF guys.

Thank you for your excellent reply to my plight and patient
explanation about FCC emissions - I was wondering if or how they
applied to our situation - I didn't mean to sound too stroppy but I
had just come in from a long day.
I will try a few more placement combinations to see if I can get
better results, when this job finishes in a couple of days.

I'm currently operating out of Singapore which is 60 miles from the
Equator so a beanie would be a killer, how about a dual channel
Viagatenna equipped wide brimmed straw hat - with headphone access and
optional cooling. ; = ))

Hi David,
A wire is run from pin 5 on the TA5M in the transmitter to a pad that
connects to a port on the micro. The external switch assembly switches
that pin and the microprocessor turns the DSP down to 0. This loses
the line level input but the US refs don't need it. Be very careful
opening any packages from Doug.
