I donīt quite understand. Post-conform *is* for PT. It reads any CMX
EDL so also the CMX EDL from FCP will work. But why conform. Why donīt
you transfer digitally to FCP and use OMF to go to PT?
Frank.

but will FCP support a timecode transfer of audio from a DAT? does it
provide Machine Control like the Avid?

Hi Vinod,
I have successfully used FCP 3 via a keyspan usb>serial adapter with a
serial> 9-pin cable attatched to conform edls and control 9-pin
(RS-422 interface) devices. I guess the other variable is whether
your FCP set up has appropriate audio I/O to get digital audio in
without having to send it via the convertors on a dv deck.

Vin, RS422 on an FCP is just like on an avid xpress, our machine is
dual-boot with fcp and xpress. Its a small din-db9 adapter which you
can connect to the mac's serial out, which is fortunately using RS422
not RS232 like the PC. This was the case in G4s, I do not know if G5
has any serial out (called modem and printer ports, apple says you
need only usb for these now) You may need a serial card or an usb
adapter. As far as I know, Avid's adapter can be used for FCP but
check out the helpdesk..

itīs quite easy:
-digitally load your DATs with TC into FCP
-edit as usual
-omf transfer to PT (FCP only does embedded OMF. embedded OMF files
can only be 2gigs each so you have top split your project if itīs too
big. to be sure create a test file and open it in PT)
frank.
