All 12 chapters of the long-thought-lost classic Republic action
serial DAREDEVILS OF THE WEST, featuring Allan "Rocky" Lane and Kay
"Nyoka" Aldridge, will be shown, with permission from Paramount
Pictures, at SerialFest 2008 in Newtown, Pennsylvania on May 16 and
17. This is likely to be the only time the film is shown publically in
the foreseeable future, and no DVD release of the title is scheduled.
Other episodes from rare serials and series to be shown will include
Episode 10 of the 1916 BEATRICE FAIRFAX series, "Play Ball," unseen
for over 90 years, which features a contemporary Yankees/Giants game
and cult favorite Olive Thomas in a major role as the kidnapped
heroine. The first two episodes of the recently rediscovered 1919
serial THE MASKED RIDER, with re-created footage by a new cast of
actors will also be shown. Chapter 2 of this serial includes Boris
Karloff's first known appearance on film, as a walk-on roughneck in a
Mexican bar.
The special guest this year is James D'Arc, curator of the Republic
serial archive at Brigham Young University in Utah.
For further information on the event, visit the Serial Squadron at

SerialFest is a not-for-profit all-volunteer event and all proceeds
from registrations go to acquisition and restoration of silent and
sound cliffhangers made the 1910s to 1950s. Hope you can join us! |
