For those with a use for AA or AAA NiMH, who don't plan to recharge them
every day, the new low self-discharge models deserve consideration (often
the packaging carries the term "pre-charged"). I purchased samples of
twelve brands, did careful testing for one-hour, one-week, four-week, and
three-month capacity, and posted the results in this thread at Digital
Photography Review.

Summary:
The champion for AA capacity, from initial through 3-month readout, was the
Maha IMEDION. The GP ReCyko and the Kodak offering were tied for second
place. The Kodak is widely available at a low price.
These batteries lose less and less capacity per unit time as the retention
time stretches out into months. Many brands showed over 96% as much
capacity at three months as they had shown at 4 weeks whereas none of the
conventional NiMH AA's in the test beat 81%, and most did far, far worse.
The AAA champion was GP ReCyko, followed by the Maha IMEDION, with Eneloop
and Duracell a still respectable third.
The AAA models differed from the AA results in that their initial capacity
was higher relative to name-plate number--in most cases exceeding it
handily. However they lost a somewhat bigger percentage capacity with time
than the AA.
The results reported here include the same data for five AA brands I
reported in a post here in September 2007, extended with new data for seven
additional AA brands and five new AAA brands.
I have no affiliation with any battery manufacturer or vendor. However I
am also not a professional movie sound guy--just an amateur classical
concert recording guy with a 722 who lurks here to learn. |
