Hi Everyone,
My Kodak Ektasound Moviedeck seems to be working pretty well except I
can't hear any sound from the sound movies. When I turn up the volume
all I hear is a loud hiss or white noise. When I plug in an external
speaker I get the same thing.
Is this a repair issue or is there something I can do to fix it? I
don't have the manual.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Actually now I'm thinking that my family home movies weren't made with
a movie camera with a sound recorder. Hmm, how can I find out
definately? Is there something out there like a 'tester' super8
commercially made film I can buy to test the sound? I'm thinking that
would be easier and cheaper than sending it in for repair and finding
it didn't really need it.
What do you all think?

I agree it's probably not sound film. The hiss and static you're hearing is
feedback from film running through the mechanism. If you want you can buy
sound commercial feature films via Ebay to test it, but they're usually not
cheap. In any case I wouldn't send a Moviedeck to a repair shop. Definitely
not worth it when you can find them in excellent shape for usually much less
than 50 bucks at thrift stores, flea markets, and Ebay.
