there is something i have to put in a good word for here. i presume
some/most/all of those who are into foreign films are also into
classical music. there is a lesser known but shockingly good piano
concerto by the swedish composer wilhelm stenhammar (piano concerto #1).
i heard this concerto a few years ago by chance on a local classical
radio station and was overwhelmed. it was written in the late 1800's,
but the complete score was thought to be lost in berlin in WWII, but
found around 1990. so i don't think there were any good recordings of it
before the early 1990's. there are 2 cd recordings that i know of, both
of which i have: chandos label # 9074 and BIS label # 550. the chandos
recording is the better of the two, imo, (although the BIS recording is
very good also). this is an amazing concerto in 4 movements. the 4th
movement is incredibly beautiful. if you like classical music of the
romantic period, grieg, tchaikovsky, rachmaninoff, etc., you MUST hear
this composition. it's the piano concerto #1 in B flat minor, opus #1 by
wilhelm stenhammAr (not stenhammEr). i am told that this concerto is
better known in europe than in the USA, and it may be difficult to find
one or the other of the two above mentioned recordings, but believe me,
it is more than worth the effort. trust me, you will thank me mike,
