Without any fanfare that I know of, 3 more Resnais films suddenly
became available on region 1 (Kino) DVD! These are _I am Going
Home_, _Life is a Bed of Roses_, and _Love Unto Death_. I am
watching the first, which won awards at Venice film festival. It's
riff about cross continental cultural envy is interesting but seems
too obvious; the more exciting thing is the embodifment of this
love-hate relationship into the persons of enstranged comic-book
writing father and Flaubert-reading daughter. It is actually quite
poignant that way. More on this later ... I wonder if there are
more; these are the three I saw on a DVD store. |
