Has anybody gotten "Mystery Trooper" (1931) from Grapevine Video? Has
it been released yet? Is the quality very good? Has it been
"tampered" with? Watermarks? Colorized? Edited? Anything?
Inquiring minds want to know...

I did! I did! I did!
So yes, it's been released. No, it hasn't been tampered with. No
watermarks, edits, or colorization. I'll have a review of it up
shortly, if not longly.

And the price is certainly right! ($12.95) I notice you didn't say
anything about audio/video quality. Probably because you haven't
viewed it all, yet. But from first glance, any thoughts? Is the
picture sharp or soft? Audio noisy or clean?
Thanks!
John

No, I didn't say anything about that so that you'd have to go to my
website, www.inthebalcony.com, which you'd love and tell all your
friends about, and they'd visit it and love it, and tell all their
friends, and pretty soon EVERYBODY hangs out there, and we become so
enormously popular that we become a verb, like "google"... When
somebody wants to know about an old movie, they'll say, "Let's balcony
it!"
That aside, I will tell you that the picture quality was surprisingly
good. I was very impressed. The sound? Well, from what I've heard, in
some places it's good and in some it's kinda fuzzy. I definitely got
the impression, though, that the problems were a result of the
problems filming in sound on location in those early days, not a flaw
with the DVDs. The dialog tends to be clear and legible, which is the
important thing. I sincerely doubt that anybody's got a better copy of
this particular serial.
Buy with confidence. |
