Spoilers below.
Been reading the reviews on this move and the critics dont know what
the young to middle aged male audience wants.
I today almost didnt bother to go see the punisher because of the
reviews these people have been writing. Figured what the hell though
and went anyways. Havent had such a great time since independance day
or pulp fiction.
If you listen to the critics on this movie you miss out for sure. Are
you a 55 year old gay history teacher who thinks he is an artist and
wears a ponytail? Yeah then maybe go rent chicago or go see 13 going
on 30.
If you are a red blooded american male, who misses the action flicks
of the 80s, yet cannot stomach the bad stories similar movies contain
anymore, then punisher is for you.
Travolta as Howard saint rocked and didn't go the total "AINT IT
COOL!" psycho I thought he would, but was instead a fuckin guy who
felt he HAD to do the shit he did in the movie for a sense of respect
(what I took from it).
Jane as punisher was more believably human than Bronsons Paul kersy
characters in the death wish movies emotionally. More believable
action wise than any arnold or stallone flick also, as a sense of
"getting lucky" comes in that I have never seen in a movie before of
this scope action wise.
In the final scene when frank castle invades howard saints place, its
almost as if he had went upstairs without getting the "champagne bomb"
thing handed to him out of the blue ya know he would have died.
The scenes with the russian and harry heck the 2 seperate hitmen sent
to kill the punisher are probably the 2 best times ive had at the
movies since tarrantinos pulp fiction.
Critics are saying its overly violent, and gruesome. PISH. Yeah the
scene where the one character gets his face jewlery yanked out is VERY
well acted or directed or both, as that guy isnt supposed to be some
CIA ex military bad ass, he is more real than anyone every tortured on
film with that.
The angle for why the punisher dons the skull tshirt was well written
and reminded me of spiderman in how the peter parker dons the costume
because he is kind of immature, the punisher dons the shirt for
emotional reasons which make it more real than if he was just some
psycho who painted a skull on his vest.
A fine piece of action flick overall, too much to go in to. A must
see movie in my view that while it has no aged actresses singing or
dancing and no discovery of the human heart of pseudo gay fashionistas
it packs a great action wallop with a great story to back it. |
