Coogan lost his first million dollars or so at age six (from the Chaplin movie
"The Kid") to his parents, who spent it. Now there are laws to stop that -
though I assume parents can stop their kids from spending the money till age 18
or so. Oddly, though, I seem to remember that when minors (teens in particular)
earned money in the 1970s or '80s, the money legally belonged to the parents.
Does it simply vary by state, or are the Coogan laws only about kids who work
in the movies, and if so, why aren't there similar protective laws for kids
with other jobs?
