You mean the drug influence? Don't sweat it. Lynch's characters seem
to be infused with the stuff. Natural psychotropics. The privilege or
experience of acting in a Lynch movie is mind altering, viz. the case
of Robert Blake. Patricia Arquette, already weird, has cemented her
place in the universe of off-kilter females.
Here's an interesting story from Cinebooks, on The Big Sleep:
"The unwieldy plot devised by Chandler kept Hawks busy trying to
figure out the puzzle. At one point during production Hawks could not
determine who killed the Sternwood chauffeur, so he called the author.
Chandler reportedly stated: "How should I know? You figure it out,"
and hung up." |
