All that I'm hearing is that it will be a mix of 3-strip and 70mm. Also, John
Mitchell has not been contacted about shipping up his titles, so no Windjammer
or Search for Paradise, both of which I would love to see again.

Windjammer? Matt, you're a glutton for punishment!

One of these days I've got to see a good copy of Windjammer. I've never
encountered a film that has so many devotees, and from what I've seen of
it I just can't see why.

Just about the only good thing I could say about it is I was very impressed by
the panel matching in the CineMiracle process. However, to be fair to
Cinerama, the print I saw last year in Seattle was for all intents and purposes
black and white, with just enough of a magenta tint in some scenes to remind
you that at one time it really was in color. Probably that made the panel
macting look a little better than it was originally.
If someone came up with a color copy I'm not sure that I would be encouraged to
sit through it again, unless of course, they offered me very large sums of
money to do so.
Any offers?

Well, I enjoyed Windjammer last time, especially for the music. The plot was
pretty hokey, although there was a spirit of adventure which subtly pushed its
way through the horrible acting. ...and the join lines were great. I was
delighted just to have the chance to see it.
Search for Paradise, on the other hand, had some pretty hokey (or is it hoky?)
"serious" music, but the nice thing (as I've said here before) was that the
sound quality of SFP amazed me with its warmth. It was truly the most
impressive soundtrack presentation I have ever heard, even if the soundtrack
music was....hoky. As far as the visual element goes, nothing especially
memorable, and I think that film was hurt more by its pink-ness than was
Windjammer.
By the way (and totally unrelated): I was loitering outside the Bay Theatre in
the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle last night, and I heard a gal in her 40s or
so come out of Master & Commander muttering about how that was a movie that had
to be seen on a huge screen and just would not pass on tv, "but the size of
that screen came pretty darn close to watching it on tv." Kinda sad, huh? Oh,
the joy of the crackerbox multiplex.
