is it so suprising that sony was the distributor? maybe cuz when asians
help other asians together we can achieve great things instead of these
pointless bitching? |

No Asians liked CTHD? I know of quite a few. It was a good film (but I
digress). I think the real question is..."would HERO have gotten wide
release if IRON MONKEY had made no money for Teratino?" Let's just hope the
door has been opened and the US will release more, and those more quickly.
I keep getting asked if I have ever heard of Shaolin Soccer and Hero--I
simply reply that I have owned them for 1 to 2 years or more.

Hero wouldn't have been MADE if it weren't for CTHD.
I interviewed Zhang Yimou and he said that he'd wanted to make a
wuxia, but no one would give him the money until CTHD proved that you
could still make money with them.

Tarantino already had that Rolling blunder project. He had takeshi,
wong kar wai, and some other movies he liked. I dont know how iron
monkey got in there yet no shaw brothers or sonny chiba. I have a
cheapy sonny chiba dvd, the bodyguard or something. The one with that
line tarantino ripped off for pulp fiction. At the end it has his
biography. Chiba's done a lot of work. In that one movie he did
with christian slater. He talks about sonny chiba, but the movie they
show that he's watching waxing poetic about sonny chiba, I dont know
what it was but he never bothered to do anything but rip off those
movies. So its obviously some incredibly stupid management. Iron
monkey had donnie yen and anything with donny yen has big time c-to-z
grade actor exploitation. And look how tarantino alienated chiba in
his latest movie. He even managed to get gordon liu to do _ get bill
_. Liu's one of the only living guys from the shaw brothers movies.
There's other guy thats also doing HKTVB series. There's a lot of
stuff that could be released, even just for comic relief. The whole
thing reeks of opportunism and exploitation.
If they took a lot of movies and released them, they'd figure out a
way to fuck them up and we'd end up being bitter about the whole bit
anyways.

Because Miramax didn't hold the rights -- Tarantino's "label" was
mostly material that Miramax already owned.
