Country must have hi-tech film archive: Goutam Ghose
PTI
Thursday, September 2, 2004
Kolkata, Sept. 2 (PTI) - National award winning director
Gautam Ghose today said the absence of a well-equipped
national film archive had resulted in the permanent loss
of a large number of rare films, including classics, made
by some eminent film-makers.
"It is pathetic how prints of so many classics and old
films have been lost forever for the want of a good film
archive in the country," Ghose said before leaving for
the Venice Film Festival where his acclaimed documentary
on the Dalai Lama would be screened.
He urged the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to
create a state-of-the-art archive immediately.
Giving an instance of a rare film by Satyajit Ray, the
prints of which he stumbled upon in an archive at a
defunct Kolkata film hall while shooting a documentary on
the maestro, he said it was surprising how such priceless
material was left uncared for.
Ghose, who bagged the national awards for the best
director and screenplay for the Bengali film 'Abar
Aranye' this year, said the national film archive was
neither technically updated nor sufficient to store the
massive volume of good films and documentaries produced
by amateur and professional film-makers of the country.

The terrorist mission of Jesus stated in the Christian bible:
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:
I came not so send peace, but a sword.
"For I am come to set a man at variance against his
father, and the daughter against her mother, and the
daughter in law against her mother in law.
"And a man's foes shall be they of his own
household.
