Larry,

All right. Now you've gone and done it! You just read my mind. I was
going to ask bout the 150s!

Your business card can now read:
Larry Fisher, Psychic Engineer
(Well, mind reading IS kind of a wireless sort of thing, isn't it?)

Thanks again,
John Blankenship, Indy
(Off tonight to shoot some more Discovery Channel mayhem.)

The Lectro M150's that we ship with UHF transmitters as "proof" mics
are waterproof in that you can put them in a glass of water and they
will work just fine when back in air. If a bead of water forms on the
screen, however, it has to be removed to allow the passage of sound.
If water is forcefully driven into the mic it will penetrate the
screen with bad results. I mention this not to brag, but if you have
some of these mics laying around, they can be used in wet situations
where you might not want to expose an expensive mic to the elelments.

Although, the Countryman and DPA mics are water proof, it doesn't mean that
rain drops or a drop of sweat will not sit on top of the element and sound
terrible. I would suggest mounting the mic facing down. This way drops will
not be able to sit on top of the mic grid.

I've had different experience with moleskin applied directly to skin
that then begins to sweat profusely. More specifically, I've found it
doesn't hold well at all after a couple of hours on sweaty folk.
Combine that with rain and with the bouncing and jouncing of someone
running for a long stretch and I start to shudder as I picture the
poor little fallen lav bouncing along the pavement behind the runner.
Transpore tape is even worse, in my experience. I'd suggest using
something like the smallest, narrowest ace bandage you can find to
secure the mic and cable in place, if it won't drive the runner crazy.

Spirit gum, as used by actors to secure mustaches and body prostheses, is
always worth a try, when you have time early on to plan your wire routing
and where along the line you are going to 'tack it down' with a spot of
spirit gum. Nice thing is, alcohol dissolves spirit gum quickly, either the
rubbing type or a small splash from a celebratory martini. If you know a
make-up artist, check with them for technique... although not much technique
is really required.
