Eleanor Powell is simply astounding in this film. She does things I've seen
no other dancer do.
P.S. Bob Wheatley needs to get a life ... a sense of humor wouldn't hurt
either. |

Quote: Nobody dances like Eleanor Powell! I have seen performances by all
the great dancers, from Bill Robinson to the dancers of today, and
none of them come close to Eleanor Powell's incredible dancing skill,
grace, and showmanship. Her dancing abilities were so extraordinary,
that she could have taught Fred Astaire a few dance moves. I think
Eleanor's juke box dance number (with Fred Astaire) in "Broadway
Melody of 1940" confirms her greatness as a dancer. If people
carefully study this entire dance number, they will clearly see
several segments where Fred Astaire is exercising more effort than
Eleanor Powell. Throughout the entire number, Ellie's performance is
fluid and effortless, whereas Fred's is less fluid and more
mechanical. This does not demean Fred Astaire's greatness as a
dancer: he is still one of the greatest dancers who ever lived. At
the height of her career, Eleanor Powell was often called "the female
Fred Astaire." Since Fred Astaire was such a great dancer, this is a
comment on Eleanor Powell's greatness as a dancer.
Here is some information on Eleanor Powell most people may not know:
In 1965, the Dance Masters of America bestowed the title of "World's
Greatest Tap Dancer" on Eleanor Powell. To my knowledge, she still
holds that title. Eleanor Powell received one of her greatest
accolades from Fred Astaire after their appearances together in
Broadway Melody of 1940: "...Fred Astaire...considered [Eleanor
Powell] a better dancer than himself..." (See Lloyd and Fuller, The
Illustrated Who's Who of the Cinema, 1987, p.353.) Eleanor Powell's
mastery of every dance form, combined with her sparkling personality,
both on and off the silver screen, made her a truly unique world-class
dancer.

A serious question: Is the proper term "necrophiliac" or "necrophile?"
Whichever: I demand my rightful place at the top of the list.

The truth hurts a bit doesn't it? The double life of Eleanor Powell.
Just like that wife-murdering Mormon in Salt Lake City. |

I think I'm the sicko here not Bob because I believe I started this
whole thing.
Well I don't know about that, and you're welcome to be the sicko if you
wish, but I lay claim to the first accusation of necrophilia:
From: Bill Anderson (billanderson601@DONTWANTSPAMyahoo.com)
Subject: Re: Eleanor Powell's Dancing Abilities

Quote:
Instead of deriding someone's post to this group, wouldn't it be more
beneficial to post who you thought was the greatest dancer, and why?
In this case I think not. The Eleanor Powell tribute posts have been
appearing semi-regularly for some time now -- often enough that they
seem less a refreshing tribute to a talented performer with a modest
number of films to her credit than, well, just the creepy musings of a
necrophiliac. The derision is not about Eleanor Powell -- it's about
some really spooky posts.
Can you Google an Eleanor Powell necrophilia post earlier than February?
I thought not. So therefore, in light of that, without question, no
doubt about it, plain as the nose on your face, it stands to reason,
couldn't be clearer, I deserve my rightful place at the top of the list.

Sure. And I'm not a sicko so your notion is more foolishness. Is that
understandable?

You have made your high moral standards clear on several occasions. It's
very admirable. It's the inconsistency I see that perturbs me.

I don't know John. Perhaps it's a lot of effort to reach across cyberspace

Hi ~J,~
My name is Lisa Marie Poort. I am 22 years old and have thought of
Elijah Wood as a great actor since high school. Even before his big
time hit in Lord of the rings I thought it would be great some day to
finally meet him. I was wondering if you could send him my e-mail
address and ask him to write me someday. My e-mail is
cutiepieus2024@yahoo.com. I would love to get to know him better as a
person and learn how he came into the acting business. because I myself
am interested in acting. I have been since I was about 7 years old and
could memorize lines. Please have him write me or can you and tell me
all about him. The more info the better.
Sincerely,
Lisa M. Poort |
