Hi guys,

I'm gonna do a recording of various sounds in the dome of a former
listening-station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teufelsberg).

Sounds will emit from a saxophone played continously in circular
breathing-mode and from a boombox playing back recorded electronics.

Acoustics in the space are extremely strange: e.g. if you kick a cola-
can on the ground it might get reflected from above the opposite side,
so that one gets an impulse of ducking. If one speaks in normal voice
face to face it's really difficult to understand what the other person
says due to a fluttering effect. The diameter of the dome is about 15
meters.

The original idea was to have a concert in there, but that's not
possible - so now the recordings shall get played back in a concert-
space via 4 speakers.

I have 4 Neumann TLM170 (with switchable characteristics) and am
recording to a SD744 (using a 702 for the 2 additionally required
48V). My first idea was to use the omni-characteristic and have the
mikes about 4m apart. Now I wonder whether it is really such a good
idea or whether it might be better to have the mikes closer to each
other and have them probably pointed in a directional mode to the
sides of the dome.

Does anyone have experience with a setup like this? Do I have to worry
about phase-shifting or -cancellation? Could those recorded signals
get used for a CD-production later on or would one need a different
setup? (...have the feeling that just one signal might produce sort of
an interesting mono-surround-effect).

Thanks for any input!

Paul

I don't have an experienced based answer for you but in addition to any
feedback you may receive here I would think it would be worth it to post
this on rec.audio.pro and wade through the volume of traffic in that
newsgroup. Lots of folks with classical and technical recording experience
over there. Not to denigrate what we do here on RAMPS.
