Has a Congressperson ever become clinically insane?

Everday and twiced on Sunday!

"Twiced" ???

[BTW - it's nearly a requirement of the position.]

Not from the South, are you?

I have spent my entire life in the South (Alabama, Kentucky, and
Tennessee, plus some visits elsewhere in the South), and don't remember
ever hearing anyone say "twiced". It must be particular to some small
region of the South.

Well I'm from Memphis and the colloquialism "everday and twiced on
Sunday" is very familiar to me. When I've seen it in print, "twice" is
usually spelled "twicet," which used to puzzle me, as I'd misread it
with two syllables: "twi-cet." I actually think the spelling "twiced"
works better. But you gotta flatten that i. Maybe "everday 'n twahst
awn Sundie" sounds familiar? No? OK, never mind.

I Googled congressman + insane and got no references to congressmen
who have gone or were insane.

However, my search did reveal many congressmen who called other people
insane. Imagine that!

... and you think Gaggle is the 'final' word?

Guess you believe all you read in Wikipaedia too !

Well, that's not exactly what I said and your deliberate
misinterpretation is duly noted.

Please allow me to clarify...

Google didn;t actually say anything about congresspersons calling
others insane. My Google search, did however, reveal links to
resources which provided information about congresspersons who have
called others insane.

Ever listened to or read Michele Bachmann?

Google "michele bachmann quotes" for the sites listing her output.

But, I wouldn't say she was clinically insane.

I don't know about Congressmen, but Earl K. Long was incarcerated
against his will in an insane asylum for a short time while he was
serving as Governor of Louisiana.

Obviously President Reagan's brain was badly rotted before he died.
Maybe while he was in office.  Things like referring to the Princess
of Wales as Princess David.

Or President Obama's even before he took office. Things like referring
to the 57 states he visited in his campaign.

Wow, that's actually on-topic in many of these newsgroups. Too bad it
doesn't answer the question.

I guess lots of elected folks have used the phrase "a moment of
madness" to describe some of their actions.

Google for (congressman schizophrenia diagnosed) is surprisingly
unproductive, but apparently most schizophrenics are diagnosed in
teenage years. The elected government HMO probably has another word
for the condition. "Freethinking". "Inspired", "inspirational".
Even "devout". Which of them have gone crazy religious?

I've noticed a rash of male politicians cheating on their wives. Are they
insane?

Well, what sort of a rash are we talking about? Could be syphilis.
That affects the brain in the third stage.

Who governed Louisiana while Long was incarcerated?

I don't recall exactly. Maybe the Lt. Governor. Maybe Earl was running
things himself from the nuthouse. Maybe the State could get along
without a Governor for a few days. It shouldn't be hard to look up, it
was all over the newspapers and magazines of the day. The way he got
himself released was by firing the head of the mental institution. By
the way, it was his wife, the First Lady of Louisiana, who signed the
papers to have him put away. Leastways, that's how I remember it, I'm
too lazy to look it up.

It certainly is. See the Gahan Wilson cartoon to that effect, and follow
